I Don't Have a Skull

So I know I have been a slacker and haven't blogged in a while and I sincerely apologize for that.

In other news, I finally saw Frozen! And it was GLORIOUS! I can't even describe it. But I'll try...

Yeah, that's the best I can do. :)

Also, I'm skyping CC!!

Excitement

I'm going home, I'm going home, I'm going home, I'm going home!

Tomorrow I'm flying by myself for the first time and it's a little scary...

But also, I'm going home, I'm going home, I'm going home!! :D

I Collect Mugs, In Case You Were Wondering

So I have this mug,

I got it from my friend Ati for our Secret Santa party (it was overflowing with Reese's!). I want to do that thing where you write on a mug with sharpie, bake it, and then it stays forever and is awesome. But the thing is, I can't decide what to write on it. I think I've narrowed it down to these three options.

1)

2)

or

Basically, this option is any grammar pun.

3)

or

or

or

Essentially, any movie/book quote that is wonderful.

So, yeah those are my options. And yes, I am aware that I cheated by listing more than three options. I don't care. So there.

Anyway, help me choose!!

I Miss You a Hole Punch

I'm sitting here, on the couch in the lounge, taking a much-needed break from studying, listening to the Polar Express soundtrack, and blogging and I'm realizing how little sleep I've gotten lately.

I'm tired!

Also. "When Christmas Comes to Town" is a wonderful song and it makes me happy.

Also, I really want to watch The Polar Express now... and Elf... and Beauty and the Beast....

Oh! Do you want to see my stitches?!? Wait.. do you even know about my stitches? Okay, story time:

So there I was, with a gross sty on my eye and I go to the Health and Wellness Center and they're like, "you should see a specialist" so that's what I do. And then the specialist man goes and cuts it off, which sounds terrible, but 1) it didn't happen quit like that, I skipped a few steps and 2) I've had that done before and compared to the last doctor who I think didn't really know what to do, this was a piece of pie.

So, the point is I have stitches on my eye and I've never had stitches before, as in EVER and I'm kind of paranoid about ripping them and also, do you want to see my stitches?

Okay, never mind. All the pictures looked too gross, which is weird because, I think anyway, it doesn't look that bad in real life...

What else?

Did you know that I think this is adorable?

Because I do.

And the word "tarantism." Look it up, it's a beautiful word.

This Week is Struggle Bus Central

This week is super crazy. It's finals week, so that sucks. I'm having kind of surgery to get my sty off and also a lot of my friends are leaving for an LDS mission, so they won't be coming back next semester. This makes me very sad. Because they're the bees knees. And I'll miss them.

Pa Ra Pa Pum Pum

I'm feeling very poetic lately. And I like it.

I'm particularly getting into spoken word poetry because it's amazing:

Also, this:

And that's how I de-stress from finals. :)

Carol of the Bells

I'm studying for a test...

Okay, you got me, I'm blogging with my notebook open in front of me.

Fine, you don't have to guilt trip me, I'll get back to studying. I just wanted to say Happy December and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! :D

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

So I'm really excited for Christmas. And I can barely contain it. SERIOUSLY!

A bunch of my friends are sitting in the lounge area on our floor like we normally do and we're talking about Christmas Eve/Day traditions and I just LOVE CHRISTMAS!

And I'm way too excited to even continue this post...

Have a Good Day!

I have a joke for you.

Pick a number 1 through 9. Got it? Okay, now add 4. Now double it. Now subtract 3. Now add 5. Now close your eyes.

It's dark now, isn't it?

hahahahahah :D

Compliments of CC.

AHH!!

Can I just tell you something?

I'm freaking out! This whole week has been one big sack of crazy emotional mess. And all because tonight is the night I register for spring semester classes (okay, plus some other stuff, but that's a story for another time).

The way it's done here is that freshmen have to wait until Thursday night at ten and then we all get on at once and crash the system fighting for pockets of 'good' wifi in a battle for the leftover spots in classes.

And now I'm just waiting for the battle to commence. And it's the worst feeling ever. Because, by nature and my mama, I'm a worrier. And I'm also impatient and just want to know what my classes will be next semester.

So yeah that's my life right now. Did I mention I hate being at the bottom of the totem pole?

No Big Deal, But It's a Huge Deal

Guess what! I'm too excited to wait; I'll just tell you!

My friend Zachary texted me yesterday and was all, "Hey you! What are you up to this weekend?" And then I told him and then he said that he might be able to get his aunt's car and drive up to visit me with our friends Christine and Mikayla!

Oh, and then he said he got the car!!

...

I don't think that's the appropriate reaction. You need to be infinitely more excited. Because it's a big deal. Maybe it would help if I told you a little back story.

These are friends of mine that I had when I lived in Ohio and it's been years since I've seen them. As in, it's been about four years.

So yeah, it's a big deal!

If It's Going to Snow it Should at Least Be the Fun Kind

I don't think karma likes me very much...

So my mama posted on Facebook yesterday that it snowed and "thus begins my love-hate relationship with winter." (I thought that was hilarious.) So I thought that was full of irony because it hasn't really snowed here yet (it's snowed in the mountains and once earlier this month, but it wasn't bad and didn't even last that day).

And lo and behold I wake up this morning, look out my window and see that it is snowing.. heavily.. but not the kind that sticks, just the kind that makes everything cold and wet.

Guys.... IT'S OCTOBER!

On the plus side this gives me an excuse for listening to Christmas music... right?

Abstract Art

This is the painting that I painted. CC is an artist and she was like, "You should paint." And I was all, "I don't paint." Because I don't paint. Nobody in my family is artistic. But she got me to paint anyway and I LOVE IT!! Painting is such a stress-reliever. Seriously. That and then choir right after.

Wonderful.

PS~ Fish Scarf

CC made a fish skirt and with the leftover fabric made me a fish scarf. Want to see it? I knew you would.

FISH SCARF!!

Making Things With My Bare Hands

So technically I'm not making anything, CC's mom is doing all the work, but still.

Oh, backtracking a bit... We're sewing skirts! CC's mom is really awesome and talented. At sewing. And a plethora of other stuff. A plethora. So now I have a black and white striped maxi skirt, a pink and white striped knee-length fun skirt, and even a colorful Aztec-y maxi skirt for Sarah Bear for Christmas! Yay for making things with your bare hands!

Just in case you don't realize that this is a big deal, THIS IS A BIG DEAL.

I don't sew. Neither does my mama (not a lot, anyway). So hand made stuff, particularly clothing, is a wonderful treasure.

Guess what I just realized. I'm using CC's computer, which means I can easily take pictures of the skirts and show you instead of doing a poor job describing them!

The black and white maxi skirt.

The pink and white striped fun one.

Sarah Bear's colorful Aztec-y skirt.
If I didn't love her, I would keep it...

Melissa & Joey

GUESS WHERE I AM!!

...Guess.

No, really...

Okay, fine. I'll tell you.

I'M AT CC'S HOUSE!!!!! :D

For the whole weekend. And it's awesome.

But also, I have another stye.. another infected stye. Guh.

PS~ I really like the show Melissa & Joey. It's funny and has the girl from Sabrina, the Teenage Witch... which I also love.

Cleo

Why am I awake at 1:03 am?

So fun fact: I'm in Celtic dance this semester. AND I LOVE IT. That class is so chill. But seriously, I love dance. I think it's possibly the best thing since before the invention of the bagel. As in, way before. I did ballet, tap, and jazz for about twelve years. My favorite was definitely jazz. Confession time - my brother, Ryanpants, does (eastern) swing dance and he would practice with me, so I like to say that I also did a little bit of swing. Is that cheating?

Anyway, I love dance. CC teaches Celtic dance to little kids and I'm so jealous! I really want to teach a dance class, but the thing is I don't think I'm good enough for that... which is sad because I was in dance for twelve years...

In other news, CC and I bought more fish! So she brought Leo and Jasmine (who sadly passed away) with her to college. The other day we were in town and we stopped at Petmart and bought two of the little baby 15 cent goldfish! So now we have three. CC named her fish Wilburt Sue Wilbur and I named mine Cleopatra, Cleo for short. The thing is, they totally match our personalities. For example, when we went to the store, all the little fishies were swimming in one big tank. CC picked her fish first and he was swimming around like crazy and it took a while to catch him. CC is way fun and spontaneous and crazy. Just like Wilburt. It's great! Cleo on the other hand was fairly easy to catch. She's like me, more calm and probably not as fun, but still having a grand time. I get the feeling that if she weren't a fish, she would like to read.

Plus, I think Cleo and Wilburt are really good friends, which is good since they're tank-mates.

I'm Taking the Stairs From Now On

So this was a fun weekend.

I'm just going to copy a part of the email I sent to my sister and so if it doesn't really make sense, that's my bad, but today's been way too long for me to care enough to edit it.

"And now about my crazy and ridiculous weekend!! You have no idea.
Prepare yourself. So obviously conference was amazing (Bednar and
Holland and Uchtdorf and President Monson and basically the entire
morning session today and others that I'm forgetting, holy crap!), but
seriously this weekend has just been an emotional roller coaster. So
I'm on this spiritual high, but along with that 1) I didn't get to go
to SLC to watch conference in the conference center like I thought I
would. Clara, Michael, and Christine were going to come up and stay in
Logan Friday night and then we were all going to go down to watch it,
but Michael's mission reunion wasn't as close to Logan as they
originally thought, so it would have been too much out of the way. 2)
Like I said earlier, we lost the football game. It was
super depressing. And I'm even a fan of them (albeit less and less now,
I feel the blue running through my veins, I love it here so
much!). But Friday was my friend Bailey's birthday and she absolutely
hates that team and she loves football and so that wasn't fun for her. 3)
Saturday I locked myself out of my room. And CC was with her
sister for the weekend. I mean, I got back in just fine and fast and I
had a free lockout, so I didn't have to pay, but it's the principle of
the thing! And now for the grand finale 4) I GOT TRAPPED IN AN
ELEVATOR TODAY!!!! I bet you didn't prepare yourself for that.

Story time. So I went to the first session of conference at the church
building, but my friend Alex wanted to watch part
of conference to see what it was like and stuff, so I was really
excited and we were planning on watching the second session in the
basement of our dorms. The thing is, one of the two elevators in the
dorm has been broken for a little while and so we're standing there
waiting for it and the broken one dings and out comes Asian flower guy
(we've never seen him before, but he was Asian and had flowers), so
we're thinking that's cool, they fixed the elevator, right? WRONG.
You'd think that if Asian flower guy can go from the first floor to
the sixth floor we could go down more than half a floor, but no! It
stopped and wouldn't move! And, even better, the elevator phone
doesn't work! It was really freaky!! And it went down a little bit,
but then stopped again. So I called my friend Emilee who had gone to
the church building again and she and my other friend Kam drove back
and she went to the office, but nobody's in there until five on Sundays
which is dumb because you never know when somebody's going to get
stuck in an elevator! So she looked up the number for the RA on call and
told them we were stuck in there and they called the campus police and
maintenance and it was crazy! I was saying like a million prayers in my
head! And then the elevator maintenance guy got there and he was tinkering
around and told us he had to go on top of the cart and that was probably
the scariest part because from inside it sounded like he was pounding
around and we just wanted to tell him to please step lightly and gently
as we didn't feel like plunging down to our death. I'm sure he was
being extremely careful and we probably should have had more faith
in the strength of the cable thing holding the elevator up, but still! So the guy
eventually opens up a hatch thing in the ceiling and lowers a ladder
down and we had to climb up and get on top of the elevator car and
then go through the doors and out of the elevator shaft!! We were in
there for about an hour and fifteen minutes! It was seriously like a
movie. Totally insane!! And after we got out we both just wanted to
collapse on our beds. She ended up not watching conference with me
(which wasn't online yet anyway, so I haven't seen the evening session
yet) and just took a much needed nap, but still that really sucked. I
was talking to another friend about it later and we were all "This
round goes to you, Satan, but sucks to suck, we have plenty more
conferences for Alex to watch!" I was really shaky by the time I got
to my room and I called Mama and that was good and I asked Kam to give
me a blessing, just because I was still pretty shaken up, so I feel
loads better now. I'm just exhausted from such an up and down weekend!
I still can't believe that happened, though! It was ridiculous.

And there's really nothing else to say once you've told a story about
getting stuck in an elevator."

Oh wait! I know how to make this weekend even better! I just got written up for breaking the quiet hour rules when we weren't even being loud (and that's not me being biased, Daphne and her friend were studying in the study room literally ten steps from where I'm sitting and they said they couldn't hear us at all). Perfect!

How Many Times Can I Say Doppelganger in One Post?

Story time!

I love the word "doppelganger." It's wonderful. Also, I love the idea of a doppelganger. I want a doppelganger...

Back to the story. I saw a doppelganger! Now, friends, you have to understand. It's not just anyone's doppelganger. No, no. It was David Tennant's doppelganger.

So pause! Click on the link to Bri's blog and read that story first.

Did you do it?

Good, back to the present story.

So I'm walking to my Intro to Religious Studies class and it's cold, so I'm hurrying along and who do I see? DOPPELGANGER DAVID TENNANT!

It was pretty great.

But wait, there's more!

So I go to class and afterward I walk back to the dorms and meet up with CC for some lunch at the Junction. And who do I see? Can you see where I'm going with this? It was DOPPELGANGER DAVID!

Just as a side note, I would love nothing more than to see my doppelganger. Keep your eyes out for a Jess Jess-like doppelganger.

So yeah, that and the big football game tonight and Conference in the Conference Center with friends I haven't seen in ages... It's going to be a good weekend.

PS~ I can say doppelganger 13 times in one post.

Doppelganger.

Dreams Lie to Us

I had a dream that I did my psychology paper wrong (the one I did in an hour) and I woke up at eight freaking out about it, only to check canvas and realize that I did indeed do it right.

I also had a dream that I got my religion test score back, but alas I did not.

Fridge Art

So I just did a paper that is due tomorrow in an hour. Yeah.

Also, I wanted to tell you about the watercolor painting I did. So my friend Bri paints and I wanted to be creative and make beauty with my bare hands, so I was all, "Bri, help me make art." And she drew a flower for me (I can't draw to save a cat from a burning building) and then I painted it with her watercolors. And it's nothing special (besides it being a forget-me-not, quite possibly my favorite flower), but I still hung it up on the cork board in my room. The thing is, I realized today that it was indeed nothing special and by any standard, well below average. And I still hung it up. So the big revelation was that I'm kind of like a mom... hanging up artwork on the fridge...

And I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Lalalalalalala

So tonight was my first ever Institute Choir devotional and I can't even express how awesome it was. Not to toot my own horn, but we sang so beautifully. My favorite song was definitely The Prayer. We also got to sing a brand-spanking new hymn (as in we were the first group ever on the planet to officially sing it) called An Angel With the Trump of God. Oh, yeah.

So you know how I've been sick? Well, it's the painful coughing sore throat kind of sick (like it hurt to sing in sacrament meeting, which is lame) and I was really nervous about being all croaky at the performance. But guess what! The only time my throat felt meh was when Latter-Day Voices sang! I was totally able to sing my little heart out and it was wonderful. I love singing. :)

Plus, my roomie is back! It was such a great night!

Gar-bear to His Friends

So today I'm doing laundry with Bri and guess who walks in! Gary (Gar-bear to his friends)! And who did he have with him, you ask? His wife! That's right! Gar-bear is a married man! (Sorry, ladies.)

Anyway, it was great to catch up and reminisce about the good old days.

Acceptance is the First Step to Recovery

I'm addicted to blogging.

Also, on a totally unrelated topic, I miss CC.

Do You Want to Hear About My Day?

You do? Well okay here goes...

So I wake up at 9 and I'm still feeling sick! So I basically do nothing all morning (even though I should be doing homework) and await the moment when my friends (Alex, Bri, Cara, and Hailey) get back from shopping and give me my much anticipated cough drops and chicken noodle soup. (I'm fast forwarding because the waiting part is rather dull.) I then got ready to go to the LDS temple here in town - my first trip to this temple and also my first time going to the temple in college. We (Austin, Cara, James, Natasha, and my new friend Kenya - really awesome name, right?!) jump in the car, wait until it cools down, and then head off to the temple only to find out that it was closed today because of the RS Broadcast. Which was really saddening because, like I said earlier, it would have been my first trip to this temple and also my first trip since coming to college. We ended up just walking around the temple and I took some cool pictures, so it was still pretty great. And then we came back and I did some homework for Creative Arts. And then I went to the church to watch the RS Broadcast (which was fantastic) and eat walking tacos (which was delicious). And then Bailey (for a little while), Bri, Cara, Emilee, Hailey, Natasha, and I watched The Emperor's New Groove and Mulan (in fact if you want to hear the rant Bri and I went on check out her blog). And now I'm going to have a sleepover in Bri's room with her and Natasha. :)

So basically I'm sitting here, blogging, after a fairly good day and a fairly wonderful night and I'm super tired, by the way, so if this is complete gibberish it's not my fault...

And I totally lost my train of thought after that... Oh, well. Good night/good morning everybody!

*Cough*

I'm sick. :(

I was going to make this a real blog post, but I realized while typing "I'm sick. :(" that I don't have the energy or the motivation for that...

I Have Three Things On My Mind

1) So I can't decide if I like the background of my blog. I picked it because it reminds me of Christmas and I LOVE CHRISTMAS. The problem is I don't really like the pattern on it... What do you think?

2) I went to The Artist's Block (a cafe place in the Performing Arts building) and bought three muffins and half of a brownie. I ALSO LOVE MUFFINS!

3) And finally, I'm sitting here, on Alex's bed, just trying to watch the Parenthood premiere and it won't load! I hate the wifi in the towers! Plus my computer sucks.

4) I forgot I had another thing to say! My roommate recently left to go home for the weekend (it's her baby cousin's birthday) and I miss her already! Our room is going to be so dull without her. :/

And now I'm done. Have a great day!

Update: Life Isn't Fair

Remember when I said I love The Hunts? So my friend Bri just told me that her friend in the striped shirt saw The Hunts live today! She even got a picture with them. :(

Be Naive

I've recently discovered my favorite thing on this planet and it's called PoBev (Poetry and a Beverage). Basically you listen to poetry - especially of the spoken word variety (side note, I LOVE spoken word poetry) and music variety (people played the guitar, keyboard, and harmonica and sang) - while you drink a beverage. It was so much fun.

Via PoBev I discovered The Hunts. They're a family of singers/musicians/songwriters and they're fantastic! I've basically listened to nothing else since. It's probably annoying CC...

Anyway, I come bearing gifts for your enjoyment:

b
